Stan Wawrinka beat Kevin Anderson 6-1 6-3 to reach the semifinals at the Rogers Cup in Toronto.
Wawrinka got a double break in the first and third games to race out to a 4-0 lead. Anderson got his first game on the scoreboard in the fifth game but Wawrinka broke serve for the third time in the seventh game to cruise to a 6-1 win in the 29-minute first set. The Lausanne player dropped just 15 points in the opening set.
Anderson earned two break points in the second set but Wawrinka held his serve. The second set went on serve until the eighth game when Wawrinka converted his second break point to take a 5-3 lead. He served out to 15 on the first match point in the next game after 74 minutes.
Wawrinka dropped just five of his five service points and fired 14 winners. Wawrinka will face either Grigor Dimitrov or Kei Nishikori in the semifinal. Wawrinka will be bidding to reach his fourth career Masters 1000 final.
