Former Olympic champion Rafael Nadal will be up and running to stake his claim at the next month’s Rio Games, insists Spanish Olympic Committee (SOC) President.
Nadal, who has been battling a wrist injury that forced him to pull out of the French Open and Wimbledon, is also awaiting a participation confirmation from the International Tennis Federations after he failed to validate the qualification criteria due to injury.
Despite all the hullaballoo, SOC President Alejandro Blanco appears convinced of the Spaniard’s odds of making it through.
“Nadal’s commitment is total and he will go to Rio to participate,” Blanco said of the 2008 gold medalist, as quoted by AFP (via NDTV). “I have no doubts over his participation. He is training regularly in order to achieve what he wants – a medal.”
The 30-year-old is scheduled to partake across all the three disciplines at the sport’s mega event that begins from August 5 in Rio de Janerio.
