The French duo of Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut have become the first doubles team to qualify for the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals, scheduled to be held from November 13-20 at the O2 Arena in London.
With 6175 points under their belt, the duo have steered clear in the race, with the second-placed Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan trailing them by around 1500 points despite playing 16 tournaments so far this season against the Frenchmen’s nine.
After a decent 2015 season that saw them make the cut to the eight-team draw for the first time, the duo has been on a rampage this year, winning as many as 31 off their 35 matches, including the Wimbledon triumph recently.
In addition to that, Herbert and Mahut have also pocketed three Masters 1000 crowns in Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo, besides bagging the Queen’s Club title. They also emerged victorious in the Davis Cup doubles rubber against Czech Republic last week.
Meanwhile, in the single’s race, World No. 1 Novak Djokovic and No. 2 Andy Murray are the only ones to have sealed their berths so far.
