Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert has won their second grand slam men’s doubles title after defeating compatriots Julien Benneteau and Edouard Roger-vasselin 6-4, 7-6(1), 6-3, in the Wimbledon final.

The top seeds dominated proceedings throughout the final by producing just two unforced errors in the match. Mahut and Herbert also successfully fended off four break points and produced 14 winners in their two-hour-and-nine-minute triumph.

Their triumph occurred during what was an historic occasion at SW19. It was the first time that there has been an all-French final at Wimbledon. The duo is only the second French team to win  the tournament in the Open Era after 2007 champions Arnaud Clement and Michael Llodra.

It could be argued that the title is especially special for 34-year-old Mahut after his heartbreak at the tournament six years ago. Facing John Isner in 2010, he lost in the longest tennis match in history. Battling for 11 hours and five minutes on the court, Mahut succumbed 70-68 in the deciding set.

Prior to Wimbledon, Mahut and Herbert have won titles this year in Monte Carlo, Miami and Queen’s. They are also the current US Open champions. Their latest triumph has elevated Mahut to the top of the world doubles rankings with Herbert just 390 points away in second place.

The duo will exit the grass-court major with a prize money total of £350,000, 1.65 million less than the winning of the singles title.
