Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios has said that the surprise elimination of top-ranked Novak Djokovic will pave the way for other big names to make inroads at the ongoing Wimbledon Championships.

Kyrgios, a strong contender to make deep damage himself, opined that following Djokovic’s stunning exit, a lot many players – especially the likes of No. 2 Andy Murray and No. 3 Roger Federer – must be eyeing to take the coveted crown home.

“I think as soon as Novak loses, you look at Andy and you look at Federer’s eyes light up; they think that their chances probably doubled,” the 21-year-old said at the All England Club.

“I think a lot of people in the locker room now believe they can win it,” he continued. “If the stars align and they’re playing well, there’s a lot of people that can go get it (sic).”

Meanwhile, Kyrgios set up a thrilling fourth round encounter with Murray after pulling off a four-set conquest of Spain’s Feliciano Lopez on the Middle Sunday.

Murray leads the head-to-head record by 4-0.
