The entry list of the Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati, which is part of the Emirates Airline Us Open Series, has been revealed.
The Master 1000 tournament event will be held a week after the Olympic games between the 15th to the 21st of August during the American hard court season and is located in Mason (Ohio), near to Cincinnati. Seven of the last eleven editions were won by Roger Federer, while Novak Djokovic has lost all the five of his finals played, including last year. The usually quick surface in Cincinnati seems to suit Federer’s game, who currently has a win-loss record of 42-8 in the tournament.
Every player currently ranked inside the top-50 has entered the 2016 edition, while Serbia’s Janko Tipsarevic and France’s Julien Benneteau will use their protected ranking to get in the main draw. The youngest player in the field is German Alexander Zverev at the age of aged 19, whilst the oldest is 37-year-old Croatian Ivo Karlovic. With the cut-off at 43, the first ten alternates currently are Vasek Pospisil, Andreas Seppi, Pablo Carreno-Busta, Nicolas Almagro, Juan Monaco, Martin Klizan, Paolo Lorenzi, Borna Coric, Nicolas Mahut and Guido Pella; all of whom will need some withdrawals to avoid playing qualifying. Argentina’s Juan Martin Del Potro is currently not on the entry list and will not play unless he receives a wild card.
