Andy Murray’s run to his second Wimbledon title has made front of almost every major newspaper in Great Britain.
The world No.2 defeated Milos Raonic in straight sets to clinch his third grand slam title, becoming the 21st man in the Open Era to win three or more grand slam titles. Nicknamed ‘King Andy’ by the I newspaper, his British triumph is the leading story in the sports section of every newspaper. Murray’s SW19 victory has cast aside other sporting achievements that also occurred on Sunday, including Portugal winning the 2016 Euros and Lewis Hamilton winning the Silverstone Grand Prix for the third consecutive time in his career.
Murray is one of five British winners at Wimbledon. Heather Watson clinched the mixed doubles title alongside Henri Kontinen of Finland, Gordon Reid won both the wheelchair singles and doubles title and finally Jordanne Whiley won the women’s wheelchair doubles title. The tally of five titles is Great Britain’s best Wimbledon performance in 80 years.
