The Spanish pairing of Feliciano Lopez and Marc Lopez won their first ever Grand Slam title together at the French Open 2016 after they denied the legendary American duo of Mike Bryan and Bob Bryan in the men’s doubles final, winning 6-4 6-7 6-3.
The match began with both players relying heavily upon their serves. So much so that, there was just a solitary break-point conversion in the first set with the Spanish twosome acquiring that to take an early lead, 6-4.
The intensity subsisted in the second, where there were no breaks on serve, forcing the tie-breaker to get involved. It was, however, the Bryan Brothers, who had nerves of steel to cruise for a 8-6 lead to take it to the decisive set.
The Lopezs looked supreme on their first serve in the third set, winning a commendable 92 percent of the points. Moreover, the Bryans were broken twice that aided the Spaniards to clinch the decider 6-3, and take the coveted trophy home.
This was just the second title together for them, having previously emerged victorious at the Qatar Open in Doha earlier this year.
