World No. 1 Novak Djokovic became the first player to qualify for the year-ending ATP World Tour Finals after his quarter-final win against Tomas Berdych at the Roland Garros on Thursday.
This comes after Djokovic bettered the qualification cut of 6650 points. With 6670 points under his belt, the Serb leads the ‘Race to London’, and is way ahead of No. 2 Andy Murray (4245) and No. 3 Rafael Nadal (2930) in the chart.
Djokovic will be entering the tournament as a four-time defending champion and will bid for his sixth title here, having emerged victorious from 2012-15 besides triumphing in 2008 here. This would be his 10th appearance overall.
“I look forward to returning there. I love playing at The O2 in front of an enthusiastic crowd, who always supports all of us,” the 29-year-old was quoted as saying by the tournament’s official website.
The tournament is scheduled to run from November 13-20 at the O2 Arena in London.
