Top Australian contender Nick Kyrgios has made his intentions clear heading into the Wimbledon: to win his maiden Grand Slam title.
The 21-year-old Kyrgios’ best appearance came here in 2014 when he was ranked well outside the Top 100. He, however, exceeded the expectations by upsetting the likes of Rafael Nadal and Richard Gasquet before being shown the door by Milos Raonic in the quarter-finals.
Now ranked No. 18 in the world, Kyrgios managed to sneak into the Top 16 seeding. This implies that he would steer clear of the ‘Fab Four’ at least until the fourth round, where he could potentially square-off against former champion and World No. 2 Andy Murray.
“Obviously Wimbledon for me is the greatest chance on stats and previous results that I can go deep at a Grand Slam and obviously push to almost win it,” ClubCall.com quoted Kyrgios, who fell in the fourth round of the Championships last year.
“To be seeded in the Top 16 and not hit one of those top-eight guys until the fourth round, that’s massive, and it’s obviously the first time in my career that I’ve been in that position as well,” he added.
“So it’s exciting,” concluded Kyrgios, who is currently warming up at the Boodles Challenge exhibition.
