Kristina Mladenovic and CoCo Vandeweghe will face off against each other in the final of the Ricoh Open Grass Court Championships after the duo overcame their respective semi-final hurdles on Saturday.
While the third-seeded Mladenovic pulled off a stunning conquest of top seed Belinda Bencic, it was a routine day in the office for sixth-seeded Vandeweghe, who eased past the unseeded Madison Brengle.
The highlight of Mladenovic’s win was marked by a power-packed serve and the ability to hold her nerves, as she served 15 aces and saved 15 out of 17 break points to clinch a 2-6 6-3 6-4 win over Bencic.
Earlier, former champion Vandeweghe put up a dominating service performance to cruise for a 6-4 6-2 victory against fellow American Madison Brengle in the other semi-final battle that lasted 71 minutes.
Heading into the Sunday’s title-clash, Vandeweghe enjoys a supreme 3-0 head-to-head record over Mladenovic.
