Ex-lovebirds Grigor Dimitrov and Maria Sharapova may have parted ways with each other, but that didn’t stop the former from passing on his commiseration for the Russian, who was recently handed over a two-year ban for failing a doping test.
The duo had been dating each other since 2013 before they decided to break up in July last year.
Making perhaps his first public comment on Sharapova following their split, Dimitrov empathized with her after she was penalized for making use of a banned substance called meldonium.
“I don’t know the case in detail, but I know that Maria has a great head and she will deal with this situation in the best way,” said Dimitrov, who has been in a relationship with Nicole Scherzinger since quite a while now.
“It is very difficult for an athlete to be out for a long time, but the only thing I can do is wish her the best,” he added.
Meanwhile, Dimitrov is currently in London for the Aegon Championships. The Bulgarian will look to end his four-match losing streak when he takes on Serbia’s Janko Tipsarevic in the first round of the ATP 500 event here.
