World No. 2 Andy Murray may be a slight underdog heading into the French Open final against top-ranked Novak Djokovic, but the Brit can upstage his fancied counterpart to clinch his third Grand Slam title, believes former tennis player Greg Rusedski.
Murray upset Djokovic to win the Rome Masters last month, and has been in stellar form ever since. His recent four-set conquest of defending champion Stanislas Wawrinka in the semi-finals of French Open further accentuated his purple patch.
That said, Rusedski insists that Murray is certainly going to give Djokovic a run for his money, when the duo clash in the summit round come Sunday.
“We’re looking forward to an epic match,” Rusedski told Eurosport. “Can Murray do it two times in a row? Yes he can. This is going to be a sensational final,” the 42-year-old further opined, recollecting the Brit’s Madrid triumph.
Rusedski also seemed mighty impressed by Murray’s performance against Wawrina, where he opened up a two-set lead before cruising through in four sets. “He just played flawless tennis. He didn’t allow Wawrinka to get any rhythm.
“It’s really coming together well and it’s coming together at the right time,” he added.
Murray and Djokovic will square-off against each other for the 34th time with the latter leading the head-to-head record by 23-10.
