Viktor Troicki has had one of the greatest meltdowns in the history of the Wimbledon Championships following his outburst at Italian umpire Damiano Torella.
The Serbian was playing his second round match against Spain’s Albert Ramos-Vinolas. During the match, Troicki expressed his displeasure with the Torella on numerous occasions. During the final stages of the second set, he argued that a balled call in was actually out. He took the ball to the umpire and stated that there was no mark on the ball, however, his appeal was unsuccessful.
That incident was the lead-up to the epic outburst. Towards the closing stages Ramos-Vinolas was leading 5-3, 30-30 in the final set. An ace from the Spaniard was called out by the linesman before Torella overruled it, sparking a one of the most dramatic outbursts ever seen in grand slam tennis.
Ramos-Vinolas closed the match out after a backhand slice from Troicki went out.
Troicki’s anger continued beyond his match as he stormed into the Wimbledon referees office. The Serbian could face a fine of up to $2,500 following his behaviour, which included hitting a ball outside of the court and smashing his racket.
