Eugenie Bouchard has shrugged off “eating disorder” rumours that sparked up after her interview during the French Open last month.
Following her first round win over Laura Siegemund in Paris, the Canadian star revealed that she has been struggling with pre-match anxiety that has had adverse effects on her food intake. This led to a spate of stories concerning the “disorder”.
However, the 22-year-old insists that her statement was completely misunderstood, and that she has not been going through any kind of a disorder.
“I never said I had an eating disorder – I don’t have one and never have,” Bouchard told ESPN.
“That (rumours) was something I was disappointed to see. I was describing how I would be nervous before matches and have trouble eating, which has happened to me since I was eight years old and playing tournaments.
“It definitely happened more frequently in 2015 but now I am less concerned about what people think. Now I worry about me and I can eat a lot.”
Meanwhile, Bouchard, a former Wimbledon finalist, will look to continue her love affair with the tournament when the Championships kick-off from June 27 at the All England Club.
