Juan Martin del Potro will return to Davis Cup action after a long gap of four years. The Argentine hasn’t represented his country at the team event ever since playing the World Group semi-finals against Czech Republic in September 2012.
Del Potro, a former US Open champion and an Olympic bronze medalist, was named in Argentina’s squad alongside compatriots Juan Monaco, Federico Delbonis and Guido Pella for the quarter-final tie against Italy that is scheduled to be held from July 15-17.
Del Potro, 27, has had a tepid affair with the Davis Cup so far either because of differences with the Argentina Tennis Association or due to a recurring wrist injury that has kept him out for most of the last two seasons on tour.
Meanwhile, del Potro is currently at the All England Club for the prestigious Wimbledon Championships, where he has been handed a tough draw. Following a first round meeting with France’s Stephane Robert, he is likely to face-off against World No. 4 Stanislas Wawrinka.
