Former finalist Agnieszka Radwanska kicked-off her Wimbledon campaign in style, scoring a 6-2 6-1 win over Ukraine’s Kateryna Kozlova on the roof-protected Centre Court.
With grass known to be her favorite surface, the third-seeded Radwanska hardly broke a sweat as she dominated the proceedings from start to the end to seal the deal in 63 minutes.
The battle began with Radwanska opening up a 3-0 lead before Kozlova staged a mini comeback. At 5-2, however, the Pole broke again to take the opening set, 6-2.
Radwanska continued the momentum in the second, breaking Kozlova’s service game at 2-1. She converted yet another break point to move 5-1 up before closing it out on serve.
Talking about the experience of playing under the roof at the All England Club, Radwanksa said that it feels more of an indoor court in the absence of the open-air conditions.
“It’s like an indoor tournament sometimes, you have to kind of get used to that. Without the sun and wind, it’s a different game,” said the Pole, who hit 14 winners and committed as many unforced errors.
Moving on to second round, Radwanska will meet either Italy’s Karin Knapp or Ana Konjuh of Croatia.
