Rafael Nadal Vs Carlos Bernardes

Rafael Nadal’s decision to ask the ATP to not allow Carlos Bernardes to officiate his matches at the 2015 French Open was one that didn’t go down well with some players.

The nine-time French Open champion made the request due to confrontation between the two at a tournament in Rio de Janerio. Nadal said that he felt that Bernardes was ‘not enough respectful’. The controversial request by Nadal was criticized by some players, one of those being world No.1 Novak Djokovic.

“I never thought of requesting a chair umpire not to be a chair umpire in my matches. I don’t think that’s fair. I don’t think that’s fair to them. You know, they do their job as best as they can. Of course, sometimes they do it better or worse.” Djokovic said.

Bernardes resumed his officiating of Nadal’s matches earlier this year. So far there have been no incidents between the two men on the court.
