The Roger Federer security scare

As one of the most recognizable and popular athletes in the world, security is always tight around 17-time grand slam champion Roger Federer. Nevertheless, mishaps can still happen and Roland Garros has seen this twice!

Following his win over against Alejandro Falla at the 2015 tournament, Federer began to leave the court before he was approached by a young fan who managed to get through security and pose for a selfie right next to Federer.

The incident was a sharp reminder of a previous incident in 2009 when a man ran on the court with a flag, putting it over the Swiss player’s head. Besides being stunned, Federer was unharmed and the intruder was captured (after he ran around the court and jumped over the net).

Security has been tight concerning players since the stabbing of Monica Seles at the 1993 Hamburg Open.
