Stan Wawrinka cruised past Pablo Carreno Busta 6-3 6-1 to reach the semifinals in his home tournament in Geneva for the first time in his career. The Swiss star did not face a break point and dropped just seven points on his serve.
Wawrinka broke serve to love in the opening game. He won the first nine points of the match to open up a 3-0 lead. Carreno Busta had no chances to break back. Wawrinka sealed the first set in 27 minutes.
Wawrinka dropped just one point on serve in the second set and broke serve three time in the first, fifth and seventh games to close out the match in just 51 minutes.
The 2015 Roland Garros champion leads 2-0 in his head-to-head matches against the Spanish player. In their first clash Wawrinka needed three sets to beat Carreno Busta.
Wawrinka will take on Lukas Rosol, who came back from a set down to beat Andreay Kuznetsov 2-6 6-1 6-0.
David Ferrer also eased through Guillermo Garcia Lopez 6-2 6-2. The Spanish player fended off six of the seven break points he faced.
Ferrer got a double break to build up a 5-1 lead en route to winning the first set. He broke twice more in the third and fifth game to clinch the second set 6-2. The Valencia native leads 11-1 in his 12 head-to-head matches against Garcia Lopez.
Ferrer set up a semifinal clash against Marin Cilic, who beat Federico Delbonis 6-4 6-3 in his first tournament since Miami last March. The Croatian player did not convert his two break points in the fourth game but broke twice in the sixth game as Delbonis made a double fault. Delbonis broke back at 3-5. Cilic hit a backhand winner and a backhand volley to break serve in the tenth game to seal the first set. Delbonic broke in the third game of the second set but Cilic broke straight back in the next game. Cilic sealed the win with his fourth break of the match in the eighth game.
