Rain Once Again Suspends Play As Doubts Mount Over Novak Djokovic

After cancelling Monday’s play due to the rain, the organisers of the French Open are continuing their losing battle against the weather.

After roughly 40 minutes of play on Tuesday, matches was suspended as the steady downpour of rain started to cause havoc on the courts. Ten matches are due to take place today, including two women’s matches from Sunday.

The latest rain delay has come as a relief for one player, Novak Djokovic. The world No.1 produced a poor start in his fourth round match against Roberto Bautista Agut as he dropped the first set 3-6. In the opening set Djokovic won just 39% of his service points and produced 15 unforced errors. It is only the second time in Djokovic’s career that he has lost to the Spanish player.

Djokovic isn’t the only big name struggling to cope with the heavier condition in Paris. Agnieszka Radwanska has dropped the second set in her match against Tsvetana Pironkova, despite leading the match 6-2, 3-0.

Play have now been cancelled until 15:00 local time (at the earliest).

Tuesday’s scores before the rain delay:-

Novak Djokovic – Roberto Bautista Agut 3-6 *0-0
Tsvetana Pironkova – Agnieszka Radwanska 2-6 6-3 *0-0
Simona Halep- Sam Stosur 6-7(5) 2-3*
Marcel Granollers – Dominic Thiem 2-5 40-40
