Milios Raonic started his Roland Garros campaign with a 6-3 6-2 7-6 (7-5). The Canadian player, who missed Roland Garros last year due to foot surgery, fired 41 winners and converted four of his fifteen break point chances. Tipsarevic, who is now ranked World Number 680 and and is in the Main Draw thanks to the protected ranking, played his second match since the 2015 US Open after being sidelined by foot and knee injuries.
Raonic got an early break in the fourth game to clinch the first set 6-3. He broke twice in the third and seventh games to open up a 5-2 lead in the second set take a two-set lead. Raonic broke serve in the fifth game of the third set for 3-2 but faced the only break point chance when he served for the match in the 10th game of the third set. Tipsarevic converted his chance for 5-5 to force the set to the tie-break. Raonic came back from 0-2 to take the 7-5 edge to clinch the match setting up a second round match against either Adrian Mannarino and Mikhail Kukushkin. Raonic will play in his fifth Roland Garros second round.
