Garbine Muguruza eased past French wild card Myrtille Goerges 6-2 6-0 two days after beating Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in three sets in the first round.
Georges earned an early break point at the start of the match. Muguruza won a 12-minute service game to hold her serve. Muguruza rallied from 0-30 by winning 16 points and broke serve in the sixth game to take a 4-2 lead. Muguruza got the double break to close out the first set 6-2.
Muguruza broke three times in the second, fourth and sixth games to take a bagel win in the second set when he Caracas native player dropped just five points.
Svetlana Kuznetsova, Roland Garros champion in 2009 and Miami finalist this year, eased past Heather Watson 6-1 6-3. Kuznetsova broke four times to win the first set 6-1. Watson broke at the start of the second set but Kuznetsova broke straight back. The Russian player got another break in the sixth game. Watson held her service game for 3-5 but Kuznetsova earned two match points and served out on her first opportunity.
