Casey Dellacqua will take a break from tennis as she struggles to overcome post-concussion symptoms.
Last year the Australian was forced to end her season early after experiencing a heavy fall during the China Open in October. The fall resulted in the former world No.26 developing Post-Concussion Syndrome, a complex disorder of ongoing concussion symptoms that could last for months.
After missing the Australian swing at the start of this year, Dellacqua returned to tour in February in the Fed Cup where she won the doubles match alongside Sam Stosur. This year the 31-year-old has only played 12 matches on the tour (11 doubles and one singles match). It is reported that the Australian is still suffering from headaches and neck pain, which has lead to her stepping away from the sport for the second time within the past seven months.
It is unknown as to when Dellacqua will return to the tour. According to her agent, she will miss the entire grass-court season, including Wimbledon. Last year the Australian reached the quarter-finals in the women’s doubles at the tournament.
Dellacqua’s biggest success has been in the doubles, where she has reached a career high of 3rd in the world. She has won four WTA titles and is a six-time grand slam finalist. Her only major triumph occurred at the 2011 French Open when she won the mixed doubles title with America’s Scott Lipsky.
