American twins Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan, popularly known as the Bryan Brothers, are reconsidering their retirement plans after the duo had announced that the upcoming Rio Olympics would be their swansong.
After winning their third Wimbledon title together in 2013, the Bryans had announced that they would call it quits following the Rio Games. However, with the mega event just around the corner, the duo is mulling to extend their career by “maybe one or two” years.
“Yeah, we said after we won London that we’d like to play Rio and then maybe call it a day. But now that it is just around the corner, we might like to stay on a big longer,” Bob told Stanford Daily, before the other twin added: “maybe two”.
The Bryans have been in the professional arena from 2003, and have hardly been concerned by injuries, unlike their fellow tennis players. Admitting the fact, Bob alluded: “We have been pretty fortunate to be injury-free most of our careers. We have hardly ever had to default a match.”
In a career spanning of over 13 years, the Bryans have won 16 Grand Slam titles, a Davis Cup (2007), and an Olympic gold from the 2012 London Games.
The Rio Olympics are scheduled to be held from August 5-21 in the Brazilian city.
