Andreas Seppi beats Daniel Munoz de la Nava to reach the second round in Nice

Andreas Seppi came back from a set down to beat Daniel Munoz de la Nava 6-7 (4-7) 7-5 6-4. Seppi broke serve at deuce in the sixth game but Munoz de la Nava broke straight back in the next game before saving two break points in the eighth game. Seppi went up a mini-break in the tie-break but the Spanish player broke back before clinching the first set 7-4. Seppi did not convert a break point in the fifth game. The second set went on serve until the 10th game when Seppi had to save a match point at 4-5 in the second set to stay in the match. The Italian player broke serve to 15 in the 11th game to clinch the second set.

Munoz de la Nava broke in the second game of the decider to 15 to open up a 3-0 lead. Seppi broke back to love in the fifth game of the decider to claw his way back for 2-3. Seppi held his serve in the eighth game to draw level to 4-4 before getting the crucial break in the ninth game for 5-4 as Munoz de la Nava made two unforced errors. Seppi served out for the match to 15 setting up a second round match against Paul-Henri Mathieu who beat Hyeon Chung 7-6 (7-3) 6-3.

Adrian Mannarino cruised past his compatriot Benoit Paire 6-3 6-0. Mannarino converted five of his eight break point chances.

Mannarino broke twice for 3-1 and 5-1 in the first set. Paire got one break back in the seventh game but Mannarino held his serve to 30 to close out the first set 6-3. Mannarino broke three times to win the second set with a bagel. Paire won just three points from his 21 second serves.

Guido Pella beat qualifier Donald Young by the same score of 6-3 6-0. Pella won 60 percent of the points on Young’s serve. Young dopped the last seven games of the match.

The match started with three breaks of serve in the first four games. The next four games went on serve before Pella got another break in the ninth game. Young won just eight points to lose the second set by a bagel.
