Toni Nadal released interesting statements regarding men’s tennis to Open Banc Sabadell TV this week. The uncle and coach of Rafael Nadal analysed the current situation atop of the ATP, considering how Novak Djokovic has been dominating all along starting in 2015, winning four of the last five Grand Slam tournaments that have been played in the past year and a half.

”I like to analyse things in dept. Novak Djokovic is an extraordinary player, and not only from today. He has always been incredible and I thought so the first time I ever saw him playing on a tennis court. I knew he was going to be one of the best players in the world. But I also think that something great has happened for him, even though that doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve the enormous success he has had recently”

That said, in the past year and a half he didn’t have to compete against the best version of Roger Federer, because obviously Roger isn’t the same player as he was in 2006, 2008 or 2009. Also, in this period he didn’t play against the best version of Rafael Nadal either. Rafa isn’t the same player he was in 2006, 2008, 2009 or even 2013. Whereas in 2014 and 2015 Rafa hasn’t been up to that level and Novak has started winning everything. In the years previous to that, Novak hadn’t won as much. With those two players not being at their very best he his unreachable, but if Federer and Nadal had done better we would have had more equilibrium and not just wins for Djokovic” said Toni.
