One of the most influential women in tennis has teamed up with one of the most influential women in music as Serena Williams made a cameo appearance in Beyonce’s new music video.
Beyonce released her sixth studio album, Lemonade, on April 23rd featuring a 60-minute video. During part of the video, Williams was featured dancing to her new song ‘sorry’. The launch of the album was a surprise move by Beyonce, with the release coinciding with a one-hour special documentary broadcasted on US TV channel HBO.

The inclusion of Williams in the music project isn’t as much of a surprise as some might think. The two women have paid tribute to each other in the past. Last year Williams created her own version of Beyonce’s smash hit 7/11. The video has been watched over four million times on YouTube. Meanwhile, Beyonce has publicly praised Williams for her achievements in tennis. In 2013, she publicly uploaded a handwritten letter on her website to congratulate the American in her triumph over Maria Sharapova in the final of the French Open.

Williams Isn’t the first tennis player in feature in a music video. In 2010 Novak Djokovic and Gael Monfils made cameo appearances in Martin Solveig’s video ‘Hello’. The song became a worldwide hit, reaching the top of the charts in seven countries around the world and was the fifth biggest selling song on the US Hot Dance Club Songs in 2011.
