Caroline Wozniacki remains unsure about participating in this year’s French Open after recently injuring her right ankle, according to her manager.

On April 7th the former world No.1 rolled her right ankle during practice. The injury forced Wozniacki to withdraw from the Fed Cup as well as the Istanbul Open. Now it appears that the French Open could also be a doubt for her.

Wozniacki’s manager, Mikkel Nissen, spoke with Danish media about the current state of her injury. Nissen revealed that Wozniacki has torn a ligament as well as injuring two others in her foot. It is expected that it could take Wozniacki up to six weeks to recover, giving her a tight deadline to get ready for the French Open, which will start on May 23rd.

“Three ligaments are damaged. One of them is torn, while two others are injured. Her ankle was very swollen”, Nissen said.
“For this reason, the foot is not in plaster, but instead provided with a protective support device”.
“She uses a lot of ice and should keep the foot high, so the swelling disappears. She is attended regularly, and people who understand this kind of injury says it may take up to six weeks,” He added.

Currently the former world No.1 is in Monaco undergoing rehab on her ankle. According to a report from bt.dk, she has already started to undergo exercises on her foot to see how her injury responds.

If Wozniacki misses Roland Garros, it will be the first time she hasn’t played in the main draw of a Grand Slam since the 2007 Australian Open, ending her run of 36 consecutive appearances in major tournaments.

The start to the year has been far from spectacular for Wozniacki. With a current 2016 win-loss of 8-7, her biggest win of the year was against world No.35 Daria Gavrilova in the second round of the Doha Open. The start to the year by the Dane currently places her at 62nd in the race to Singapore. Only the top-eight players will qualify for the end-of-year championships in October.
