The words of former French Minister of Solidarity and Social Cohesion, Roselyne Bachelot, suggesting that Rafael Nadal’s long injury layoff was in fact a cover up for a positive doping test continue to receive a strong response from the Spanish player’s camp as his coach, Toni, intervened tonight in Spanish radio show Al Primer Toque.
Toni spoke with a mixture of disappointment shock and confirmed that Rafa had got in touch with his lawyers to take the corresponding procedures. “A person can’t say the atrocities that this lady has said. She’s questioned the integrity of all the institutions that fight against doping. Rafa’s career won’t be tarnished by what this lady has to say”, said a tenacious Toni Nadal.
It is not the first time Rafael Nadal is put into doubt by members of the French government or media and Toni quite simply stated that “we are no longer surprised to see heartless idiots invent things like that about Rafa”. The Spanish Secretary of State for Sport, Miguel Cardenal, who already dismissed the allegations earlier in the day joined the conversation to reiterate his backing for the former world number one tennis player.
“I think it’s incredible that someone that has occupied that role could make those remarkss, it’s a very serious matter and I want Rafa to know that he has the government at his disposal for whatever he may need. Rafa is a worldwide sports icon and this lady’s attacks are an attack on sport on a global scale”, intervened Cardenal.
We are yet to see how far the case will go but what is for sure is that the Nadal camp is fed up of the constant insinuations that have always come from France. Rafa and his team will take the subsequent legal procedures and all will be resolved in court.
