Former world No.10 Kevin Anderson has had a minor operation on his ankle in the latest of a series of injury woes for the South African player.
Since the start of the year, the 29-year-old has only been able to finish two matches on the tour (both in Auckland). At the start of the year a right knee injury forced him out of the Chennai Open. The injury also forced him to retire during his first round match against Rajeev Ram at the Australian Open.
During his rehabilitation period, the unlucky South African picked up a shoulder injury, prompting another retirement during his first round match at the Delray Beach Open. Shortly after the retirement, he said that the injury was caused due to ‘excess strain’ on his shoulder.
Due to his absence from the tour, Anderson decided that it was the best time to undergo the minor procedure on his ankle. It is understood that the procedure was conducted to help strengthen his ankle and help him play on the tour ‘for a few more years’. The world No. 15 posted a lengthy message on his Instagram account, detailing the latest development.
Anderson will be hoping to play in the French Open for the seventh consecutive time in his career. Last year he reached the third round of the tournament before losing to Richard Gasquet.
