Gael Monfils kicked off the tie in Guadeloupe against Frank Dancevic, beating him in straight sets 6-3 6-1 6-3. Gilles Simon also didn’t let Vasek Pospisil to win a set, beating him 7-5 6-3 6-3.

With Raonic withdrawing, Canada was forced to play World No. 245, Frank Dancevic in the opening singles tie. Monfils got an early break at 2-1. Both players held on to their serves until 5-3, when Dancevic was serving to stay in the set. After 4 deuces and 3 saved set points, Dancevic lost the set 3-6. Monfils was really great on serve, winning 83% of points after the first serve. Monfils kept on dominating in front of his frond crowd, got the lead of 5-0 and ended up winning the set 6-1. Despite Monfils’ numbers on serve getting worse, Dancevic dropped really badly, to winning only 45% of points after his first serve. Both players were serving very well, Monfils winning 93% of points after first serve, and Dancevic giving Monfils only 2 break points. However Monfils took both of the opportunities and finished the match, winning 6-3.
Gilles Simon started his match with really bad play, as he was losing 0-5. Pospisil then started to make a mistake after
mistake, which ended up in him losing the set 5-7 and making altogether 25 unforced errors in the first set. Simon also broke Pospisil early in the second set, and his streak stopped after he won 9 games in a row. Simon then managed to break Pospisil’s serve again, when he was serving to stay in the set at 5-3, so Simon was two sets up. Set 3 had many deuces and only one break of serve, which happened to Pospisil. Pospisil did not take any of his 5 break point chances and lost the match.
