World No.39 Alize Cornet has confirmed that she will participate in the upcoming Miami Open after missing two months of the tour due to a back injury.
The 26-year-old has endured trouble with her lower back during the early part of 2016. The Frenchwoman has been suffering from bone edema, which is swelling inside the bone. Additionally, she has also been troubled by a bruised vertebrae as well as a problem with one of her discs in her back.
Regardless of the injury woes, Cornet defeated Eugenie Bouchard to win her fifth WTA title at the Hobart International in January. The triumph was her first singles title since 2014. At the Australian Open, the last tournament Cornet played in, she suffered a second round loss to China’s Shuai Zhang.
The news of Cornet’s return was confirmed by a post on her Facebook account.

Last year at the Miami Open, Cornet reached the third round before losing to Carla Suarez Navarro. This year will be her ninth consecutive appearance in the Miami main draw. Boasting a win-loss of 7-8 at the event, Cornet’s best run was to the fourth round in 2014.
