The German Tennis Federation (DTB) has revealed that they invest 60,000 euros per year in rising star Alexander Zverev.

The 18-year-old is currently ranked 58th in the world. His highlights of 2016 include reaching the semifinals in Monterpiller and the quarterfinals in Rotterdam. The German’s game has earned him praise from other players on the tour, including Tomas Berdych, Stan Wawrinka and Philipp Kohlschreiber. The young talent has trigger a higher than usual investment from the DTB. Usually they have a limit of 5000 euros for players, but has decided to increase the limit for Zverev.

Comparable players were earlier promoted with a maximum of 500 euros per year. That’s enough now simply no longer enough. We must treat our exceptional talents.” DTB vice-president Dirk Hordorff told dtb-online.de

The amount given to Zverev from the DTB is equal to 18% of his prize money earned throughout his 2015 season. It is understood that the majority of the funding is used to pay Zverev’s fitness trainer.

Zverev took part in Germany’s Davis Cup tie against the Czech Republic this weekend. He played in the deciding match against Lukas Rosol where he suffered a disappointing straight sets loss to the world No.50.
