17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer will take some out of his training schedule to attend the Oscars ceremony on Sunday evening.
In the build-up to the Oscars, Federer attended Harvey Weinstein’s private dinner at the Montage Hotel along with other celebrities such as Jared Leto and Lady Gaga. Weinstein is an American film producer best known for winning an academy award for his work on Shakespeare in Love. During the event Federer confirmed to Hollywood Reporter, Tatiana Siegel, that he would be attending the event.
It is reported that the tennis giant will be cheering on Leonardo Dicaprio, who is nominated for best actor for his role in The Revenant. The two men are known admirers of each other. In 2013 Federer wrote on social media that ‘he would be honored’ if Dicaprio played him in a movie. In 2015 the two teamed up for the Leonardo Dicaprio foundation, offering the winner a chance of a one-to-one with Federer.
A photo of Federer attending last night’s party was uploaded by Instagram user Andrea Gomez.
Federer is currently out of action due to a knee injury. Last Friday he announced that he would skip the upcoming BNP Paribas Masters in Indian Wells as he continues his recovery. It will be the first time that Federer hasn’t featured in the main draw of the tournament since 2000. Instead, he plans to comeback to the tour in April at the Monte Carlo Masters. The 34-year-old recently posted a slow-motion video of him training.
