The German beat Julien Benneteau today in two quick sets (6/4, 6/4) and 1h30 minutes at Rotterdam. After a white season who had been stopped in March 2015 due to a groin injury, Julien Benneteau made his comeback in 2016. He still not have his first win of the season. Depite this loss, the French was able to reassure about his physical state. The lack of competition was too much against Philipp Kohlschreiber.
In the first set, the world number 32 was more confident with his tennis and took the break in the middle of the set. But he had to face with a great battle from his opponent. Kohlschreiber had to save four break point during this first set (6/4).
The second was more undecided. The German broke at the start of the set to take the lead and discourage Benneteau. But the French is not the kind of men to give up. He played very agressive after the break and at 2/1 he took the Kohlschreiber’s serve.
It’s at this time we saw the Benneteau’s lack of competition. Just after his come back in the second set, he lost his serve again with a great opponent who found the right angles on the court.
A important win for Philipp Kohlschreiber today against a very dangerous player when he’s at his top phisically.
He will face at the next round Ivan Dodig, who beat an other French yesterday, Benoît Paire.
