What a disappointment for Andreas Seppi… The Italian had the victory in his hands but he didn’t succeed to end the game.
Gilles Muller finaly won in three sets (4/6, 7/6(2), 6/4) and 2h06 minutes.
In the first set, Seppi was playing a better tennis and made the game with his backhand. He broke Muller in the third game of the set and kept this advantage to take the first set 6/4.
Same situation for the second set. The Italian was more strong than his opponent but Muller resisted well with his good serve (19 aces today) and volley. He saved one break point at 4/3 against him and was consistent until the tie-brek.
During the first two sets, Seppi seemed to be better but it don’t guarantee the win.
Gilles Muller played an amazing tie-break with five points in a row and a very agressive tennis. He took the second set (7/6(2)).
In the decider set, both players were at the same level. Muller took his chance and made the break first at 3/3. Seppi reacted well for equalize right away !
But the Luxembourger wanted the match and broke Seppi again. A last break to end the Italian hope. Muller won his serve and the match. A great fight at the first round, and maybe a other fight at the second. Gilles Muller will meet the number two seed Marin Cilic.
