The world number 88 played the best match of her carrer to beat her first top ten. An amazing victory for this young player (18 years old).
In the first set the match was tight and it was hard to keep the serve. Ostapenko lost her serve three times and Petra Kvitova two times.
Despite of that both players played well and Kvitova came back in the match to finaly took a decisive break to take the lead in the game (7/5).
For the second set, we all think that Kvitova going to keep her agressivity and great tennis to win the match. She did that until 2/2. After, Kvitova lost her game and her opponent took confidence step by step. The Czech didn’t score one more game after and Ostapenko kept her way with a good tactics to win the second set (6/2).
Petra Kvitova have more experience than her opponent in this kind of situation so we thought she’ll finaly win. But the young Estonian is suprising and have a very good mental.
Ostapenko accelerated and took all the Kvitova’s games, with good dynamic. Petra Kvitova was lost in the court with no solution and lost the match with a bad 6/1.
Very positive match and week for Jelena Ostapenko. She will play Saisai Zheng in the quarter-finals.
