World Number 16 David Goffin has announced that he will work with Thomas Johansson, who will become a coaching consultant. The Belgian star will continue working with his full-time coach Thierry Vancleemput.
“I am very happy to announce a new member in my team: Thomas Johansson. Thomas will work with me and my coach Thierry Vancleemput a couple of weeks during the year. I am very excited to start with this extended structure next week when I play in Rotterdam.
Goffin emerged on the world stage in 2012 when he reached the fourth round at the Roland Garros as a lucky loser. He eventually lost to his childhood idol Roger Federer in four sets. He was awarded the ATP Comeback Player of the Year for 2014 when he finished as his country’s highest ranked player with a year-end high number 22 after rising 91 places from 2013. He reached his first ATP 500 final in Basel where he finished runner-up to Roger Federer. He qualified for the third round at the 2014 US Open for the first time in his career and won two titles in Kitzbuhel and Metz. He is currently ranked world number 16 but he reached his highest ranking in July 2015 when he rose to world number 14. He guided Belgium to the Davis Cup final against Great Britain in Ghent and reached the fourth round at Wimbledon and the third round at the US Open. He lost to Roger Federer in the fourth round at the 2016 Australian Open.
