Belinda Bencic has been praised for her talent and ability to progress fast with her tennis despite her very young age. Guided by the likes of Martina Hingis and her mother Melanie, Belinda has risen to the spotlight soon, but managed not let the light blind her, continuously making progress with her tennis, reaching for her goals.
Last week reaching the final in the WTA Premier event in St. Petersburg, the Swiss has officially made her debut into the WTA top 10 players ranked in the world. Still 18, Belinda has become the first teen to make her debut in the top 10 at such a young age since Caroline Wozniacki reached the feat in May 2009, when she was not yet 19.
There have been a total of 20 players in the last 20 years in the WTA tour, who have managed to break into the top 10 before they turned 20. Those have been: Martina Hingis (1996), Venus Williams (1998), Anna Kournikova (1998), Serena Williams (1999), Kim Clijsters (2001), Jelena Dokic (2001), Svetlanda Kuznetsova (2004), Maria Sharapova (2004), Nicole Vaidisova (2004) and as anticipated before, Caroline Wozniacki (2009).
