World No.2 Andy Murray has become a farther after his wife, Kim, gave birth to a baby girl on Sunday evening.
Murray has taken a month off the tour to spend time with his wife and their first child. During the Australian Open Murray has stated that he would leave the tournament if his wife went into labor. In a recent interview with The Daily Mail, the British No.1 said that he wants to be there for his wife and child.
“It’s obviously important. I want to make sure at the beginning I am there as much as I can be to try and help out, just be there for whatever is really required of me.” Murray said.
The two-time Grand Slam champion has spoken about his commitment to his family on numerous occasions. Speaking recently about the arrival of his first child, Murray said that he still love tennis but his priority is with his family.
“My child is more important to me, and my wife is more important to me, than a tennis match,” Murray said shortly before this year’s Australian Open.
“It’s a big change for me and my wife, but that’s the current priority and I’ll see after that.
“I have no idea how that will change things. I still love tennis: I have trained and prepared as best as possible for here and I feel like I’m in a good position to do well, but my current priority is my family.”
No details have been released concerning the birth and what the name of the baby will be.
