Serena Williams met with the media in Melbourne, where she will be defending champion at the 2016 Australian Open. The World No.1 hasn’t played an official match in its entirety since losing in three sets to Italian Roberta Vinci at the US Open, two matches shy of a historical calendar Grand Slam.
Serena was seen not happy with her tennis or possibly suffering from pain at her knees in the first practice sessions she has had at Melbourne Park. Asked about her physical conditions, Serena reassured she is more than ready to start off the first major of the season.
“I am 120% right now. Maybe today I had a bad attitude during practice, I am a little bit tired. I am ready, I worked hard in the weeks leading up to the event” Williams told reporters.
Despite being defending champion and World no.1 Serena confirmed as she has been doing lately that she feels like she has nothing to lose. Also, Williams said she wants to win the tournament more than anyone.
Despite having nothing to lose, Serena didn’t quite answer a reporter who asked what a good result would be for her in Melbourne, making it clear that she has arrived in Australia to finish just as she did 12 months ago: with the trophy in her hands.
