Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova has confirmed that she has ended her coaching partnership with David Kotyza after seven years.

The two have worked together since November 2008. Kotyza was also the captain of the Czech Republic Fed Cup team before stepping down in 2012 to focus on his work with the 25-year-old. During their time together Kvitova has won 17 titles, including the Wimbledon championships twice. The news of the separation was confirmed by a Facebook post uploaded by Kvitova.

“After seven fantastic years together, I will no longer be working with my coach David Kotyza. We had a great run together, winning two Wimbledons, 17 titles and enjoying many laughs. I would like to thank David for the many things he taught me both on and off the court and I wish him all the very best in the future”.  Kvitova wrote.

Kvitova has endured a troublesome start to 2016 after being forced to withdraw from Shenzhen and Brisbane due to a stomach virus. Then at the Australian Open the world No.7 suffered a straight sets loss to Daria Gavilrova in the second round.

According to a report published by Nova Sport, the decision to end the partnership was Kvitova’s, saying that she needs ‘something new’ in her game. Reacting to the separation, Kotyza told Nova Sports that he respects her decision.

I respect the decision of Petra and I wish her every success for the future in personal and sporting lives.” Kotyza was quoted by Nova Sport saying.

It is currently unknown who Kvitova’s next coach will be, however, it has been reported that the world No.7 would like a replacement for Kotyza by the end of February. The Czech is scheduled to return to action at the Doha Open, which begins on February 22nd.
