Nick Kyrgios put in a sensational display to defeat Andy Murray amidst an electrifying atmosphere in the Perth Arena. The Aussie, yet to beat Murray in four previous meetings, hit sublime winners from both sides to quite simply outpower his opponent en route to a 6-4, 7-6 win.
“It doesn’t matter what type of match you’re playing, you always want to win. One hundred per cent he wanted to win that tonight. I thought it was a good match He’s a true champion. He’ll come back and I’m sure he’ll be ready, and he’s a strong contender for the Australian Open”, stated Kyrgios after his morale boosting win.
Heather Watson then levelled things up for Great Britain with a three-set victory over Daria Gavrilova but in the mixed doubles, Nick Kyrgios once again led from the fore, to steer the Aussie ship within touching distance of the final. It came down to an extremely tight super tie-break which went Kyrgios and Gavrilova’s way by 11-9.
Australia Green complete the group stages on Friday against France.
