Andrey Rublev
Andrey Rublev first rose to prominence last year when he defeated Spain’s Jaume Munar to win the French Open Boys’ tournament. Since then the 17-year-old has made solid progress on the pro tour this year. Rublev’s first ATP Tournament main draw appearance was at the 2015 Delray Beach International where he defeated Israel’s Dudi Sela in the first round before losing in the second. Then at his second pro tournament, the Miami Masters, he stunned Pablo Carreno Busta in three sets to claim his first match win in a Masters tournament. This year the Russian has also been a prominent member of his country’s Davis Cup team. In July he defeated Pablo Andujar in straight sets give Russia a 3-2 win over Spain.
Despite the series of convincing results, the 17-year-old still has a lot of work to do in order to break the top 100. With a main draw win-loss this season of 15-21, the former junior world No.1 will be hoping to have a more positive figure during his 2016 season. Despite the challenges facing him, former world No.20 Dimitry Tursunov has predicted big things for Rublev.
“ I think he has great potential, and it will grow and grow. Most importantly, he has a desire to develop as an athlete, as a professional”. Tursunov said during a interview with R-Sport in October.
“ Of course it is something difficult to predict and give any predictions, but I’m not really not worried about him, I think he will be a very good player”.
Partnering Tursunov, Rublev claimed her first ATP doubles title at the Bank of Moscow Open. In the singles he is currently ranked at a career high of 172nd in the world.
