Elias Ymer

Elias Ymer has been portrayed as the next big thing in Swedish tennis and in 2016 he will be bidding to get the crucial breakthrough on the ATP Tour. 2015 has been a mixed experience for the 19-year-old who ends the year with a main draw win-loss of 18-24. In June he claimed the biggest title of his career at the Caltanissetta Challenger in Italy. On the ATP Tour his best performance was at the Barcelona Open when he defeated Nick Kyrgios to reach the third round.

Despite some positive results, Ymer has lost in the first round at 10 tournaments this year. In the four major tournaments this year, Ymer participated in the qualifying rounds at all of the Grand Slams. He became the first player since Frank Dancevic (2011) to successfully qualify for the main draw at all four tournaments, losing in the first round at all of them.

Ymer has recently formed a new coaching agreement with Fredrik Rosengren ahead of 2016. Rosengren has previously coached Mario Ancic, Jarkko Nieminen and Magnus Norman. Looking ahead to 2016, Ymer has explained that he currently doesn’t have any targets concerning his rankings in 2016.

“At the end of this season I started to think too much about rankings. It was stressful. We have not set any performance goals now, but training will be good to improve the rankings” Ymer said.

The Swede is currently ranked 136th in the world, 9 placed below his career high achieved in September.
