The Singapore Slammers will take on the Micromax Indian Aces in the International Tennis Premier League tomorrow. The Slammers beat Indian Aces 27-21 on Saturday in Singapore. Earlier today the Philippine Mavericks beat the UAE Royals 24-23 in the first match.
Philippine Mavericks edged out OBI UAE Royals 24-23 in the first match of day 2 at the IPTL in an exciting atmosphere at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. With this win the Mavericks put an end to the Royals’ hopes to qualify for the final.
The Mavericks led in the first two sets winning the men’s legends singles and the women’s singles. In the legends match James Blake beat Goran Ivanisevic 6-4 before Jarmila Gajdosova gave the Mavericks a five-game lead after the first two sets thanks to a 6-3 win over Kristina Mladenovic.
Mladenovic and Daniel Nestor cruised past to 6-1 over Gajdosova and Devvarman in just twenty minutes to level the score.
Treat Huey and Edouard Roger Vasselin clinched the men’s doubles with 6-4 over Marin Cilic and Daniel Nestor to give the Mavericks a two-game lead. Cilic beat Roger Vasselin 6-4 in the men’s singles to enable the Royals to draw level to 23-23 after the first five sets.
The first super shoot-out of the 2015 shoot-out was required to decide the match winner. Karlovic edged Cilic 10-9 in a tight super shoot-out to close the match 24-23 in favour of the Philippine Mavericks.
Overall leaderboard leaders Indian Aces clashed against Singapore Slammers in the second match which decided the second qualified team for tomorrow’s ITPL Final. Singapore Slammers won 27-21 setting up the Final against the Indian Aces.
In the men’s legends match Carlos Moya fired 5 aces and broke serve three times en route to beating Fabrice Santoro 6-2. In a tight men’s singles Stan Wawrinka edged Bernard Tomic 6-5 (7-4) in the shoot-out to give the Singapore Slammers a 2-0 lead. Both players broke twice apiece to force a tie-break which Wawrinka won 7-4.
The Slammers increased the Slammers’ lead to 3-0 thanks to Belinda Bencic who broke serve twice en route to beating Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-2. Kuznetsova failed to convert on her six break point chances.
The Indian Aces claimed the final two sets winning the mixed doubles and the men’s doubles but these wins were not enough to overtake the Singapore Slammers.
In the mixed doubles Rohan Bopanna and Sania Mirza won the first set for the Indian Aces with 6-4 over Dustin Brown and Karolina Pliskova
The men’s doubles came down to the wire to the shoot-out where Bopanna and Dodig prevailed in the final set for the Indian Aces over Nick Kyrgios and Marcelo Melo with 6-5.
Before tomorrow’s final the Aces have been the best team throughout the IPTL with eight wins from 11 matches.
