Serena Williams has reached another impressive goal in her legendary career this week. The US super-star has remained on top of the WTA Ranking for 150 weeks in a row.
Williams regained the World Number 1 spot in the WTA Ranking on 18th February 2013 after reaching the final in Doha. This was the first time she returned to the top since her long lay-off due to injury and illness problems from 2010 to 2011.
During Serena’s 150 week-reign five different players have taken number 2 spot behind the US star. Maria Sharapova (54 weeks), Viktoria Azarenka (36 weeks), Simona Halep (30 weeks), Li Na (25 weeks) and Petra Kvitova (5 weeks)
Serena has recorded the third longest streak at Number 1 in the WTA Ranking . She is closing the gap on all-time second placer Martina Navratilova who stayed at the top of the Ranking for 156 consecutive weeks from 14th June 1982 to 9th June 1985. Steffi Graf boasts the first longest streak at Number 1 with 186 weeks from 17th August 1987 to 10th March 1991.
Williams has recorded a win-loss record of 171-13 in her 184 matches since regaining the World Number 1 (66-2 in 2013, 52-8 in 2014 and 53-3 in 2015). She has won 22 of the 39 tournaments she has played since regaining the World Number 1 spot (10 in 2013, 7 in 2014 and 5 in 2015) and has clinched six of her 11 Grand Slam tournaments (2 in 2013, 1 in 2014 and 3 in 2015).
Serena ha salso celebrated her 273rd overall week at the top. Only Graf (377 weeks) and Navratilova (332 weeks) achieved a better record than Williams.
