This year’s US Open finalist Roberta Vinci was honoured by the city of Taranto (her home town) where she received a formal commendation for sporting merit after her incredible season in which she beat Serena Williams in last September’s US Open semifinal. Vinci was presented with the award by the Mayor of Taranto Stefano Ippazio in the presence of members of the city council. The Italian player has won eight WTA titles and was ranked World Number 1 in the doubles.
This year Vinci also reached the semifinals in Wuhan and in the Elite Trophy in Zhuhai and the quarter finals at the Roger’s Cup where she lost against Serena Williams. Vinci has recently announced that she will play her last season in 2016.
