Australian No.2 Nick Kyrgios has spoken about his future goals over the weekend whilst in the Philippines for the IPTL.

The controversy-stricken 20-year-old has stated that he believes that he could be on the verge of winning his first Grand Slam title in the foreseeable future. Kyrgios has so far reached two quarter-finals in Grand Slam events during his career (Wimbledon 2014 and the Australian Open 2015) and is yet to win an ATP title.

I’m looking to, you know, go really far in a Grand Slam and then almost win one in the next year or two.” He said during his recent press conference.

2015 has been a mixed year for Kyrgios after his controversial comments made during his match against Stan Wawrinka in August. He was caught on camera saying ‘Kokkinakis banged your girlfriend’. The incident elevated the Australian into the media spotlight and resulted in him receiving a hefty fine as well as a six month suspended sentence from the ATP. On the tour Kyrgios reached his first ATP Final in May at the Portuguese Estoril Open, before losing to Richard Gasquet. Reflecting back on his season, where he produced a win-loss of 24-19, the Australian is happy with the outcome of his performance on the tour this year.

“I had a pretty up and down year, results-wise and then obviously on the court there was some stuff,” Kyrgios was quoted by the AFP saying.
“But you know, overall I think it was pretty successful. I think I’ve matured a lot this year and I’ve learned a lot and I definitely feel that I’ve grown as a person and as a tennis player,”

Currently Kyrgios is playing in the IPTL for the Singapore Slammers. So far in the exhibition event the world No.30 has produced wins over Milos Raonic, Tomas Berdych and Philipp Kohlschreiber in the men’s singles. His only singles loss was to Croatia’s Ivan Dodig.

Kyrgios will start his 2016 season at the Hopman Cup alongside fellow Australian Daria Gavrilova. The Hopman Cup is a mixed event featuring eight teams from seven different countries. The tournament starts on January 3rd and will also feature Serena Williams, Andy Murray and Lleyton Hewitt.
